Baseball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Desert Sunrise

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Desert Sunrise). They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Coronado Dons on Wednesday. The Golden Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by ten runs or more this season.

Ivan Zamora and Leander Vale made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Zamora tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Vale tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Desert Sunrise is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5-1 otherwise. At the plate, Zamora went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Vale went 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Vale a new career-high.

In other batting news, Desert Sunrise let Nick Crawford and Alexander Vale run wild. Crawford went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, while Vale went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Crawford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brayden Tracy, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Desert Sunrise hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory (which was Desert Sunrise's seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Coronado, their loss was their 22nd straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-17.

Coming up, Desert Sunrise will venture away from home to face off against Yuma at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Hawks will need to watch out since the Criminals have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games. Coronado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
