Basketball Game Preview: Hanalani Royals vs. Carlsbad Lancers

The Hanalani Royals and the Carlsbad Lancers will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hanalani comes in on six and Carlsbad on three.

Hanalani saw some tournament action on Friday. They put the hurt on Ukiah with a sharp 52-30 victory. The Royals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Ellana Klemp, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (six). Piha Akiona was another key player, going 5 for 9 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Hanalani smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad strolled past Pleasant Grove with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 58-39. The win was all the more spectacular given the Lancers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the Eagles are ranked 164th).

Hanalani's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Carlsbad, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
