Game recap: Xavier High School Football Team defeats Norwich Free Academy

NORWICH, Conn. - Xavier (Middletown, Conn.) put up 14 points in the fourth quarter in Saturday's game to seal their 48-14 victory over Norwich Free Academy (Norwich, Conn.).

The Falcons were up 20-14 at the half after taking the lead on a Tim Boyle touchdown run in the first quarter.

Xavier expanded its lead to 20 points entering the fourth quarter. XHS scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by DeAngelo Berry.



The loss snapped the Wildcats' 12-game winning streak.

The Middletown school's standout player in the win was Berry. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 36 touchdowns on the season.

Joey Paparelli played well for Norwich Free Academy. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.

NFA came in giving up 11.7 points per game this season. The Norwich school struggled against the Falcons' offense, which entered the game scoring 41.3 points per game. Xavier had given up an average of 16.9 points prior to the contest. The 14 points that the Wildcats ended with were well below their average of 30.4 coming into the game.

The loss comes after Norwich Free Academy defeated Staples 30-28 last week.

In a playoff game next week Norwich Free Academy (12-1) takes on Xavier, and Xavier (12-1) will go up against Norwich Free Academy also in a playoff game.
