Vale put their dominant defense on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Nyssa Bulldogs a 49-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five games by 22 points or more so far this season.

Vale found their leader in sophomore Cal Johnson, who rushed for 63 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries, and also threw for 166 yards and one TD while completing 85.7% of his passes. Thomas Rodriguez was another key player, gaining 39 total yards.

Vale didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Johnson and Troy Dayton.

Vale's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.0 points over those games. As for Nyssa, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Vale will square off against rival Burns at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Vikings 9, the Hilanders 5.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Nyssa is set to challenge their familiar foe Umatilla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
