Preview: Brookesmith Mustangs vs. Cherokee Indians
The Brookesmith Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Cherokee Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Brookesmith will be strutting in after a victory while Cherokee will be coming in after a loss.
Brookesmith put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 86-22 victory over Lohn at home. Brookesmith pushed the score to 65-11 by the end of the third, a deficit Lohn had no chance of recovering from.
Trey Toft continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Jase Moreno was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Meanwhile, Cherokee's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They fell 47-38 to Richland Springs.
Brookesmith pushed their record up to 22-8 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Cherokee, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-6.
Brookesmith skirted past Cherokee 47-45 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brookesmith since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
