Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Ankeny

Ankeny posted their closest victory since February 12, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Johnston Dragons 41-38. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Hawks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Dragons are ranked 26th).

Ankeny pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Johnston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.

Ankeny is taking a road trip to square off against Dallas Center-Grimes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dallas Center-Grimes will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Ankeny surely won't give up without a fight. As for Johnston, they will host Urbandale at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
