Basketball Recap: Davenport Extends Winning Streak to Three

Davenport waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Haines City Hornets by a score of 72-59. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 54-52 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Haines City still got an impressive performance from Eddy Hyppolite Jr., who went 9 of 22 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. Hyppolite Jr. has been hot, having also posted five or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dequarious Marks, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

Davenport now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Haines City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Davenport and Haines City could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Davenport (ranked 282nd) will meet Discovery (ranked 111th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Haines City (ranked 222nd) will meet North Tampa Christian Academy (ranked 32nd) at 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
