Basketball Recap: Hannibal Comes Up Short

Hannibal lost against Moberly back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Hannibal Pirates received a blow as they fell 69-53 to the Moberly Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 238th, while the Spartans are ranked 77th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Moberly to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mason Bivins, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. That's the most rebounds Bivins has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Knox, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Hannibal dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Moberly, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hannibal will take on Mexico in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Moberly, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marshall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Moberly is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
