Baseball Game Preview: Clarksdale Wildcats vs. Lafayette Commodores

The Clarksdale Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Lafayette Commodores at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Clarksdale, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Clarksdale turned things around against Cleveland Central on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Wolves by a score of 11-7.

The team relied heavily on Tyler Washington, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those runs were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of James Washington, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Clarksdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Lafayette suffered their biggest loss since February 28th on Thursday. They came up short against Second Baptist, falling 9-1.

Clarksdale picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Lafayette, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Lafayette's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clarksdale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Lafayette, though, as they've only averaged .228. Will they be able to contain Clarksdale's hitters?

Clarksdale might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Lafayette when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Clarksdale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
