Basketball Game Preview: Columbus North Bull Dogs vs. Bloomington South Panthers

The Columbus North Bull Dogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Bloomington South Panthers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Columbus North is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.

Columbus North is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Franklin Central just ended the team's five-game winning streak last Saturday. They took a 62-45 bruising from the Flashes.

Despite the defeat, Columbus North saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaylie Harmon went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points. Harmon's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Terry, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Bloomington South waltzed into their match on Saturday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They enjoyed a cozy 51-36 win over the Bulldogs. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bloomington South's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Columbus North, their loss dropped their record down to 13-2.

Columbus North beat Bloomington South 64-55 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbus North since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
