Basketball Recap: Pacific Grove Comes Up Short

Pacific Grove lost against Palma back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Pacific Grove Breakers fell 61-50 to the Palma Chieftains. While losing is never fun, the Breakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while the Chieftains are ranked 232nd).

Despite the defeat, Pacific Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Andrew Nimri went 9-for-21 to rack up 21 points and six rebounds. The contest was Nimri's tenth in a row with at least 20 points. Sergen Serttunc was another key player, putting up nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Pacific Grove and nudges their season record down to 11-11. As for Palma, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Pacific Grove will take on Salinas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pacific Grove is facing Salinas at the right time seeing as Salinas is stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for Palma, they will square off against Monterey at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Monterey knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Palma likes a good challenge.
