Softball Game Preview: Elk Rapids Elks vs. Kalkaska Blazers

The Elk Rapids Elks will face off against the Kalkaska Blazers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Elk Rapids is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.

Elk Rapids lost a heartbreaker the last time they played St. Francis, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's match. The Elks were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Gladiators on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Elks needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Rhielynn Skrocki made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jillian Moazeni, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooke Fluty, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Elk Rapids kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Kalkaska lost 15-4 to Bellaire on Tuesday. The Blazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kalkaska's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Elk Rapids, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
