Baseball Recap: Nottoway Takes a Loss

If Nottoway was riding high fresh off their 12-5 takedown of Cumberland last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars came up short against the Buckingham Knights on Tuesday, falling 22-3. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost nine in a row.

Nottoway saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Simmons, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Simmons is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Nottoway's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Buckingham, the win keeps they at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nottoway will face off against Lunenburg Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Buckingham, they will square off against Appomattox County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
