Basketball Recap: Anson Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Alaysia Caraway and Za'kiah Hixson

Anson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the West Stanly Colts, falling 65-44. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-32 back in January.

Anson's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Za'Kiah Hixson, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, and Alaysia Caraway, who posted eight points in addition to 13 boards and five steals. Caraway is becoming a predictor of Anson's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 3-1 (and 5-13 when she doesn't).

Even though they lost, Anson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Anson's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for West Stanly, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.

Coming up, Anson will be playing in front of their home fans against Forest Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Stanly, they will head out on the road to take on Piedmont at 6:00 p.m. on February 14th.
