Basketball Recap: Mariner Comes Up Short

Mariner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 41-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fort Myers Green Wave. The Tritons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Green Wave from their previous meeting back in November of 2023.

Fort Myers' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Skye Douglas led the charge by putting up 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Douglas is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Monica Mercado, who posted 11 points.

Mariner's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Fort Myers, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mariner will venture away from home to challenge Gateway at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fort Myers, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Naples at 7:30 p.m. on January 21st.
