Basketball Recap: Smith Center Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hill City last Tuesday, Smith Center came back down to earth. The Smith Center Redmen took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Phillipsburg Panthers. The Redmen have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Smith Center saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kaylee Weltmer dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Weltmer is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.

Smith Center's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Phillipsburg, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Smith Center wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-25 loss against Hoxie on the 4th. Phillipsburg has also already played their next match, a 52-18 victory against Hill City on the 4th.
