Soccer Game Preview: Marshall vs. Garfield

The Marshall Barristers will take on the Garfield Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Monday, Marshall sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Eagle Rock. Given the Barristers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Eagles are ranked 602nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sitka Crump and Luis Gonzales scored both of Marshall's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 15 goals.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Garfield had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Mendez on Thursday.

Marshall has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those 11 games. Garfield's win bumped their record up to 8-5.
