Softball Recap: Beaufort Drops Highest Score of Season Against Bluffton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Beaufort). They blew past the Bluffton Bobcats 18-3 on Wednesday. The Eagles have beaten the Bobcats the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bobcats has come to flipping the script.

Adalyn Johnson and Aliyah Aiken made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Johnson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Aiken tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Johnson scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Aiken scored four runs while going 2-for-4. Those four runs gave Aiken a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hadley Stevens and Kara Nuehring did most of the damage at the plate: Stevens scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Nuehring scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two hits gave Stevens a new career-high. Arianna Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Beaufort's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Bluffton, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
