Basketball Recap: Newton Falls Takes a Loss

If Newton Falls was riding high fresh off their 73-43 takedown of Windham on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell 79-75 to the Hubbard Eagles on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (73), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Newton Falls still got an impressive performance from Phil Davis, who shot 41% from the field on his way to 24 points and eight steals. Davis' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drayson Moore, who posted 12 points and five steals.

Hubbard's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakob Hayes led the charge by dropping a double-double with 30 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance also gave Hayes a new career-high in shooting accuracy (92%). Another player making a difference was Dylan Bucher, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine assists.

Newton Falls now has a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Newton Falls will challenge East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hubbard, they will take on Poland Seminary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
