Softball Game Preview: Sunset Apollos vs. Glencoe Crimson Tide

The Sunset Apollos will face off against the Glencoe Crimson Tide at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sunset 2.3, Glencoe 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Glencoe will be up against a hot Sunset team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Apollos came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against Tigard. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Apollos have posted since March 21st.

The team relied heavily on Mia Kodachi, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Santana, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Glencoe, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Westview with a sharp 7-1 victory on Friday. Considering the Crimson Tide have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Allison Glaze was incredible, going 1-for-2 with six stolen bases and two RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Makena Petrick, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Sunset pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Glencoe, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Glencoe's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sunset has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. It's a different story for Glencoe, though, as they've only averaged .352.
