The Porter Cowboys will head out to take on the Weslaco East Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Porter has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Porter is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Pace on Friday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 12-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Porter saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devin Esquivel, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Weslaco East gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Donna. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Antonio Solis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Weslaco East let Aiden Gonzalez and Tyler Gonzalez run wild. Aiden scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Tyler scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave Tyler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Del Villar, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Weslaco East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Porter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Porter came out on top in a nail-biter against Weslaco East when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cowboys since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
