Baseball Game Preview: Cumby Trojans vs. Big Sandy Wildcats

The Cumby Trojans will face off against the Big Sandy Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cumby knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Big Sandy likes a good challenge.

Channing Herman was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Cumby's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-13 when he doesn't).

Herman wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Evans, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Evans has posted since back in February of 2024. Another was Osvaldo Ruiz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Big Sandy can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Alba-Golden, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 1st.

Cumby's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Big Sandy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.

Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cumby has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Big Sandy struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
