Softball Game Preview: Webb Spartans vs. Grace Christian Academy Rams

Webb hasn't had much luck against Grace Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. Webb has given up an average of 16.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Webb is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They lost 13-4 to Knoxville Catholic.

Jeneva Mitchell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Terralyn Hill also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Grace Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Brooke Million was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ava Malone was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Webb's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Grace Christian Academy, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Webb hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Grace Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Webb might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Grace Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
