Recap: Powhatan Indians vs. Clover Hill Cavaliers
The Powhatan Indians entered their tilt with the Clover Hill Cavaliers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Powhatan took their game at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 44-8 victory over Clover Hill. With Powhatan ahead 30-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Powhatan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Layman, who threw for 233 yards and five touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes. Matt Henderson was another key contributor, picking up 92 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Powhatan's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Jaden Watkins and his two sacks.
Powhatan's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Clover Hill, their loss was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Powhatan will take on Richmond City School of the Arts at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Richmond City School of the Arts comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Clover Hill, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against James River Midlothian at 7:00 p.m.
