Basketball Recap: Valley Christian Find Success

There's no place like home for Valley Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They escaped with a win on Monday against the Sacramento Country Day Cavaliers by the margin of a single free throw, 85-84. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Cavaliers last Friday, they had to take a 82-69 loss.

Leading Valley Christian to victory were James Shevchuck and Riley Garcia. Shevchuck went 8 for 11 to rack up 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Garcia went 7 of 15 on his way to 19 points and seven boards. Shevchuck's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Jack Grexton was another key player, putting up nine points and seven assists.

Valley Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 14 consecutive matchups.

Valley Christian's record now sits at 10-14. As for Sacramento Country Day, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.

The future could be bright for both Valley Christian and Sacramento Country Day: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently.
