Recap: Belle Vernon Leopards vs. Southmoreland Scotties
The Belle Vernon Leopards had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 48.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Southmoreland 49-7 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-0.
Quinton Martin was his usual excellent self, rushing for 142 yards on only eight carries. Martin was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards. Belle Vernon also got a significant boost from Kole Doppelheuer, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.
Belle Vernon's win was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.8 points per game. As for Southmoreland, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Belle Vernon will be playing at home against Elizabeth Forward at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elizabeth Forward is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Southmoreland, they will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (Mt. Pleasant is ranked 221st, while Southmoreland is ranked 236th).
