Volleyball Recap: Southwest SD Starts Season with Win Against Morse

Southwest SD gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Morse Tigers. For the Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2021.

While Southwest SD might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Morse scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 25-21.

Brianna Hernandez paced Southwest SD's offense, picking up nine kills. Hernandez got some help from Paloma Lopez and her nine assists. Josie Iribe controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Morse's loss came despite strong showings from Hailie Bautista and Jaylena Ortiz. Bautista had 17 digs and three aces, while Ortiz had 13 digs and five aces.

Morse's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Southwest SD will square off against Chula Vista at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Morse, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Mount Miguel on the 19th.
