Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and Safford are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2019, but not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy will be strutting in after a win while Safford will be coming in after a loss.

Last Thursday, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy made easy work of Palo Verde and carried off a 3-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Safford didn't have quite enough to beat Empire on Wednesday and fell 3-2.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Safford sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-11, 24-26, 25-20, 8-25, 15-13.

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy will have to keep a close watch on Jazzlyn Mortensen and Kai-Lee Cordova, a pair of players who had a big impact on Safford's prior game. Mortensen had 11 digs, four aces, and one block, while Cordova had 19 digs and two aces. Mortensen has been hot recently, having also posted 19 or more assists the last three times she's played. Rhylie Klajda also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Safford's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-10. As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy beat Safford 3-1 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
