Volleyball Game Preview: Cerritos Dons vs. Western Pioneers

The Cerritos Dons will take on the Western Pioneers in a tournament on Saturday. Cerritos will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Cerritos barely beat Artesia the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dons put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 3-0 win on Friday.

Cerritos not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Artesia between 15 and 17 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-17, 25-15.

Meanwhile, Western was able to grind out a solid victory over Saddleback on Thursday, taking the game 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Roadrunners: they've now won four in a row.

While Western might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Saddleback scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-18, 16-25, 25-18.

Western's win came from a few key players Cerritos will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Angela Jasso, who had 33 digs and two assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joanna Salas, who had 17 digs.

Cerritos' victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Western, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.

Cerritos took their victory against Western in their previous matchup back in September of 2016 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
