Basketball Recap: Burke Skates Past St. John's with Ease

Burke won against North Charleston last Saturday with 57 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Burke Bulldogs claimed a resounding 57-30 win over the St. John's Islanders. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 27 points or more this season.

Several Islanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daeshia Buford, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 10 points and four steals. Buford is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 28 games she's played dating back to last season. Bella Thornley was another key player, putting up eight points and five assists.

Burke is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.4 points per game. As for St. John's, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Burke will head out to challenge Philip Simmons at 6:30 p.m. on January 14th. As for St. John's, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 45-34 victory against Baptist Hill on the 10th.
