Baseball Game Preview: Santa Fe Christian Eagles vs. Francis Parker Lancers

Santa Fe Christian and Francis Parker are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Santa Fe Christian has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Santa Fe Christian and Classical Academy, and Classical Academy kept the tradition alive. The Eagles fell just short of the Caimans by a score of 3-2 on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by just one run.

Owen Mauser was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Santa Fe Christian's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Kyle Plasman was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double. Riley Nelson was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Francis Parker nor Maranatha Christian made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Lancers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Lancers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Francis Parker saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Nathan Venz, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Francis Parker's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9-1. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only four runs. As for Santa Fe Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
