Baseball Recap: Scott Takes a Loss

Scott had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-7 to make it five. They fell just short of the Goodland Cowboys by a score of 12-11. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Goodland, the victory got them back to even at 8-8. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Goodland's part, Kacen Sederstrom was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Sederstrom has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. He has become a key player for Goodland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Jared Quain was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Deegen Knox also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scott will head out to square off against Ellis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Railroaders have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Goodland, they will square off against Wray at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
