Baseball Game Preview: Academy of the New Church Lions vs. Friends Select Falcons

Academy of the New Church is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing at home against the Friends Select Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Academy of the New Church will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Community Academy of Philadelphia on Thursday. The Lions put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 17-6 win.

The team relied heavily on Joey Kimenour, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Josh Leavelsly was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Academy of the New Church always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .788. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .583 that Community Academy of Philadelphia posted.

Meanwhile, Friends Select sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Jenkintown on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.

Miles Lesser was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Academy of the New Church now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Friends Select, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
