Volleyball Game Preview: Central Catholic Fighting Irish vs. Mercy Marlins

The Central Catholic Fighting Irish will head out to take on the Mercy Marlins at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Central Catholic turned things around against Bryan on Thursday. They blew past the Golden Bears 3-0.

The 3-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-23, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Mercy faced Utica Eisenhower in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Marlins sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Eagles. The win continues a trend for the Marlins in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.

Central Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Mercy, their win bumped their record up to 17-2.

Central Catholic couldn't quite get it done against Mercy when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Fighting Irish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
