Baseball Recap: Roncalli Takes a Loss

Roncalli had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 6-7 to make it five. They lost 9-1 to the Brillion Lions. The Jets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Roncalli saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Victor Anzia, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Those doubles were Anzia's first of the season.

As for Brillion, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Brillion's side, Joe Shimek made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). Shimek has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Chase Braun was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was McCormick Zutz, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

While Roncalli had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
