Softball Recap: Bauxite Wins Going Away Against Fountain Lake

Bauxite had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Fountain Lake on Tuesday. The Miners put the hurt on the Cobras with a sharp 15-4 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Miners also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2022.

Kim Smith and MJ Bermingham made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Smith tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Bermingham struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, Smith posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. At bat, Smith went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Bermingham went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Emma King and KB Jacks did most of the damage at the plate: King went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one run, while Jacks went 3-for-5 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave King a new career-high. Another player making a difference was London Cunningham, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

Bauxite always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fountain Lake only posted an OBP of .310.

Bauxite's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Fountain Lake, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9.

Bauxite wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 14-8 defeat against Cabot on the 17th. As for Fountain Lake, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-5 victory against Jessieville on the 16th.
