Softball Recap: Lakin Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Lakin ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 victory over the Stanton County Trojans. This was a revenge game for the Broncs: when they faced off against the Trojans on Monday, they had to take a 7-5 loss.

Moriah Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lileah Villa was a standout: she scored two runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Atlantis Hernandez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Lakin's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Stanton County, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
