Preview: St. Mary's Academy Crusaders vs. Veritas Christian Eagles
The St. Mary's Academy Crusaders will head out on the road to take on the Veritas Christian Eagles at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Mary's Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
On Tuesday, St. Mary's Academy came up short against Manhattan HomeSchool CHIEF and fell 47-37. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Mary's Academy in their matchups with Manhattan HomeSchool CHIEF: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, Veritas Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Monday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 73-31 loss at the hands of Eudora. While losing is never fun, Veritas Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Eudora is ranked 126th).
Veritas Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Josh Nadvornik, who scored six points, and Vaughn Heck who scored nine points.
St. Mary's Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Veritas Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
Everything came up roses for St. Mary's Academy against Veritas Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 70-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Mary's Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
