Football Recap: Stanton County Trojans vs. Southwestern Heights Mustangs
Stanton County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell to the Southwestern Heights Mustangs 24-19. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.
Omar Mercado had an outrageously good game for Southwestern Heights as he rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 47 yards and two touchdowns. Luis Martinez also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Stanton County's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Southwestern Heights, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-1.
Stanton County will face off against Ellinwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Southwestern Heights, they will square off against Syracuse at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southwestern Heights is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
