Basketball Recap: St. Patrick Takes a Loss

After flying high against Wayne Academy last Saturday, St. Patrick came back down to earth. The St. Patrick Fighting Irish were dealt a 62-34 loss at the hands of the Laurel Golden Tornadoes on Tuesday. The Fighting Irish were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-16.

Despite the loss, St. Patrick still got an impressive performance from Alex Patino, who posted 21 points and five steals. The game was Patino's tenth in a row with at least ten points.

It was another big night for Kayllis Walker, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 boards for Laurel. That's the most points Walker has posted since back in November of 2023. Karly Hunter was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

St. Patrick's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4. As for Laurel, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

St. Patrick wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 43-36 victory against Bay on the 13th. As for Laurel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-12 win against Gautier on the 13th.
