Meanwhile, Chopticon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They fell to McDonough 12-7.
Despite the defeat, Chopticon saw an underclassman step up: Gage Bettencourt rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Bettencourt got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 50 yards.
Calvert now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Chopticon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
Everything came up roses for Calvert against Chopticon in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, as the team secured a 45-14 win. In that matchup, Calvert amassed a halftime lead of 31-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
