Basketball Recap: Wyatt Hansen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vail Christian over Nucla + How To Watch

Vail Christian lost against Nucla back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Saints fell 55-44 to the Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Mustangs are ranked 15th).

Vail Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Wyatt Hansen, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points. Jack O'Shaugnessy was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Holten McCluer was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 26 points and nine boards for Nucla. With that strong performance, McCluer is now averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game. Another player making a difference was Austin Garvey, who shot 78% from the field en route to 14 points.

Vail Christian now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Nucla, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Vail Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-43 victory against Telluride on the 12th. As for Nucla, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-43 win against Caprock Academy on the 12th.
