It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but East Nicolaus had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Woodside Wildcats. Considering the Spartans have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
East Nicolaus let Lela DeCecco and Lily Smith run wild. DeCecco went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Smith went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits DeCecco has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Sotelo, who earned two RBI and one stolen base.
East Nicolaus hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodside struck out 12 times.
The win (which was East Nicolaus' seventh in a row) raised their record to 22-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Woodside, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-12 record.
Coming up, East Nicolaus will face off against Northgate at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Broncos will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. Woodside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
