Preview: Cottonwood Colts vs. Skyline Eagles
Cottonwood is 0-5 against Skyline since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cottonwood Colts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Skyline Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
Cottonwood's 17-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cedar Valley.
Alivia Hutton put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 15 points. She scored a full 30.6% of Cottonwood's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Carley Caton, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Skyline's three-game losing streak came to an end on Monday. They walked away with a 58-49 win over Hunter. The win was just what Skyline needed coming off of a 61-33 defeat in their prior contest.
Cami Groberg continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Skyline's points. Mia Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals.
Their wins bumped Cottonwood to 1-2 and Cedar Valley to 2-0.
Cottonwood came up short against Skyline when the teams last played back in February of 2021, falling 49-37. Thankfully for Cottonwood, Tina Njike (who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 23 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
