The O'Gorman Knights will challenge the Yankton Bucks/Gazelles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. O'Gorman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
O'Gorman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Mitchell, who was ranked 22nd at the time (O'Gorman was ranked 18th). The Knights were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Kernels on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Kernels: they've now won four in a row.
Mary Koch made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Koch was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Kinsley Sheridan was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Sonia Deckert was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
O'Gorman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Yankton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Brandon Valley, falling 11-1.
Yankton's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for O'Gorman, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Yankton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: O'Gorman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for Yankton, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain O'Gorman's hitters?
O'Gorman came out on top in a nail-biter against Yankton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 9-7. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Bucks/Gazelles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
