Basketball Game Preview: Valley Lumberjacks vs. Wood County Christian Wildcat

The Valley Lumberjacks will head out on the road to challenge the Wood County Christian Wildcat at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Valley is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Clay-Battelle just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 73-59 to the Cee-Bees.

Meanwhile, Wood County Christian came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wildcats 80-31. Given the Wildcat's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Wildcats are ranked 853rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wood County Christian's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Things could have been worse for Valley, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-43 loss to Wood County Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
