Softball Recap: Rochelle Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Rochelle ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Forreston Cardinals, sneaking past 8-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hubs also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Lauren Dyer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

Dyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cheyenne Somers, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jaclynn Lira was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rochelle's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-18. As for Forreston, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-26.

Rochelle and Forreston could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Hubs (ranked 386th) will meet Ottawa (ranked 80th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Forreston will square off against Fulton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (570 vs. 265).
