Baseball Game Preview: Monrovia Bulldogs vs. Speedway Sparkplugs

Monrovia is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Speedway Sparkplugs at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

After dropping their season opener at home, Speedway is headed out to face a Bulldogs squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Monrovia lost 23-11 to Indian Creek on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Braves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Zach Oliphant was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Speedway kicked off their season on Wednesday but they'll have to wait until their next contest for a more definitive result. Neither they nor Warren Central could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 13-13 tie.

Monrovia took their win against Speedway in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Sparkplugs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
