Basketball Game Preview: Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings vs. Southeast Cyclones

Guernsey-Sunrise is 1-9 against Southeast since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings will face off against the Southeast Cyclones at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Guernsey-Sunrise is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Friday. They took a blow against Niobrara County, falling 68-23.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 17-17 at halftime, Southeast was not quite Niobrara County's equal in the second half on Saturday. They fell to the Tigers 49-43. The Cyclones have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Guernsey-Sunrise will have to keep a close watch on TJ Moats and Ayden Desmond, a pair of players who had a big impact on Southeast's prior game. Moats dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Desmond dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards. That's the most points Moats has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Beaux Shimic, who put up six points.

Even though they lost, Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Guernsey-Sunrise's record now sits at 3-12. As for Southeast, their record now sits at 12-9.

Guernsey-Sunrise took a serious blow against Southeast when the teams last played last Saturday, falling 52-21. Can Guernsey-Sunrise avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
