Baseball Recap: Calistoga Takes a Loss

Calistoga had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-9 to make it five. They lost 15-3 to the Credo Gryphon. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gryphon this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Friday.

As for Credo, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-11. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Credo's part, Thadeus Cole made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave Cole a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Credo's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-2 (and 4-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Henry Humphreys was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jude Pond, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Calistoga has already played their next match, a 13-3 win against Technology on the 16th. Credo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
